About the event

Amelia Abraham is a journalist and author who specialises in writing about LGBTQ+ politics and queer culture. She’s written on this topic for The Guardian, The Sunday Times, Vice and more, and appeared on Sky News and ITV News to discuss Pride and LGBTQ+ rights in Britain.

Her first book Queer Intentions: A (Personal) Journey Through LGBTQ+ Culture, Picador 2019, was shortlisted for the Polari Prize. It’s a first person work of nonfiction in which Amelia explores the “mainstreaming” of queer culture from Ru Paul’s Drag Convention to Prides across Europe to a trans model agency in New York, asking: how far have we come and where have we got to go?

Her second book, the anthology WE CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS: 35 Voice on the Future of LGBTQ+ Rights features essays from Beth Ditto to Olly Alexander on how to make the world better for queer people.

Uli Lenart is the deputy manager of Gay’s the Word bookshop in London. He is a book reviewer, literary event coordinator, and author interviewer.
